Deepwater Border Leicesters

Deepwater Border Leicester Stud was established in 1973 by Judith with six Creston Stud ewes. The stud was based at ‘Deepwater’ Judy's original family property. After Judy’s marriage to John Dowdy the stud moved ‘Moolyella’ at Binnum in 1988, where it is today.

Bloodlines from The Oaks stud were added with emphasis on a dense, medium to finer fleece type. The stud joined Lambplan in 1993 aiming to improve our Border Leicesters. Soon after, John and somefellow Border breeders established the ‘Super Ewes’ Group to progress the breeding of high fertility maternal sheep.
Deepwater became a founding member of ‘$uperBorder$ Inc’, a progressive group of stud breeders using Lambplan to produce better Borders. Structural soundness is always first priority in the stud breeding program but without measurement progress cannot be made in improving fertility, growth, milking and carcase traits. An annual A.I. program enables access to the best genetics available.

Our Deepwater Border Leicesters have come a long way over the years Constantly striving for genetic improvement has changed the traditional maternal breed to one more suited for today’s lamb production.
